I agree- if God has gifted someone as a writer, that person should pursue it and glorify Him with her talents. I used to dream of being published as well, but I channeled it into becoming a magazine writer. I’m hoping that someday I can write a book or two. It can be hard to start getting published, but if God wants someone to move in that direction, He will provide the way and provide opportunities for an individual to become equipped with what is necessary to succeed in that arena.

I would love, love, love to go. I heard about this conference a couple years ago and I’ve wanted to go ever since. I’d love to go now but I think it’d be better if I waited until I had something ready. Nonetheless, I’ll pray over and do as He directs.

Great question, Tonya! Some people prefer to go to their first conference just ready to learn. They don’t bring anything with them. Others want to prepare a book proposal (3 chapters and a complete outline) so they can meet with publishers and agents and get feedback. Or, they go looking to sign up for writing or speaking critique groups and they prepare the required materials to have their peers evaluate them. Each conference lays out clear guidelines about what you will need to accomplish your goals for that specific conference. So, really it’s up to you.
