Summer Bible Study: Week 1

If you are reading this via RSS feed click here to see the video.

I am so excited that Summer Bible study kicks off this week! Today’s post is an introduction that will set the stage for the next six weeks as we study the life of one of my favorite biblical figures and work our way through my book Leah: Confessions of a First Runner-Up.

Over the next six weeks you will learn how to:

*Stop performing for the love and affection of other people.

*Quit comparing yourself to others and see value in being yourself.

*Discern between real love and a cheap imitation.

*Identify manipulative tactics and learn effective alternatives for communicating.

*Understand more about God’s unique calling on your life and begin living it out.

*Live a life that points others to Christ so you can leave a lasting legacy.

Once you’ve watched the video please remember to comment so I know you’re studying about Leah alongside of me this summer. Feel free to ask questions or make observations about what you are learning . I love hearing from you!

    Hi Shannon,

Would it be okay for me just to join in and watch the video’s or do I have to have the book?

    Love,
    LaSara

  2. Sarah says:

I’m participating! Looking forward to it!

  3. Rose says:

So I was a little worried when I logged on today that I was a week behind (that we were supposed to start doing our homework last week) but was pleasantly surprised that this was the first vlog and also the beginning of the first week. I have already begun to dig into my book and I’m so pleased that I’m on track. I know I’m going to learn a lot.
I cannot wait for next Tuesday because I just know that God is going to use this Bible study in a great and awesome way. I am praying for each girl participating that God would excite us about Leah and His word and teach us some pretty amazing, life-changing things. (In fact, I wrote down that prayer in some blank space at the beginning of my copy of the book.)
Thank you, Shannon, for all that you are doing! This summer Bible study is a great idea and will bring glory to God! Blessings to you and to all of Leah study buddies!

  4. Jenna says:

    Yay, I’m excited! :)

  5. Shannon says:

LaSara: Yes you can still participate if you don’t buy the book. Anyone is welcome. As with everything in life, the more you put into it the more you will get out of it.

So the homework will bring an added benefit to those who are studying Leah’s life throughout the week. But you will still be able to grow and be challenged by just watching the video sessions too.

I’m so happy to see all of these comments as I am excited to study Leah’s life in God’s Word with all of your girls this summer.

  13. Rose says:

I just finished Week One and boy, oh, boy, was it captivating and convicting at times. I learned a lot about Leah and myself that I never knew before and I’m looking forward to the next vlog and Week Two. I wanted to share here that on June 12, I wrote a prayer in some blank space on one of the first pages in my book. I prayed specifically for “illumination” of God’s Word to you, Shannon, to me, and to all of the other girls participating in this Bible Study. I hope that everyone feels that week one was exactly that: illuminating. I pray that everyone is experiencing a new level of brilliance in their relationship with God (I know I am)! Today as I was finishing the homework, I feel like God gave me a new word for Week Two: understanding. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am praying that God would lead us to new heights of understanding as we study both His book and Shannon’s!

  14. Bethany says:

how are you guys enjoying the book? What have you noticed that has stood out to you? I want to try to get a feel of what you girls see in the book and what i missed. : ) I really hope everyone is enjoying the book and God is making big changes in all your lives.

  15. ROSE says:

I was not able to get the book-but i am really excited about this!! Thank you so much Sannon. (God-willing i will be able to access high speed Internet.)

  16. Shannon says:

I love that so many of your are commenting. For those of you who don’t have the book, the first chapter is available for free in the post for Week 2–so head over there to check it out.

Bethany, let’s try to get a conversation going on the Week 2 post about what everyone saw in the book. What stood out to you?
