Growing up I was taught to always write a thank you note.
As a child the task seemed sometimes arduous–especially if I was thanking somebody for an ugly sweater. But I see now how the simple act of writing a thank you note cultivated a heart of gratitude in me. Every time I received a gift of any kind I was taught to stop and write out a reason I was appreciative and send it to the giver. It wasn’t long before I began to turn the practice of thank you card writing into an art form. I looked for just the write stationary, got creative in my reasons for liking the gift, and attempted to let people know they were even more meaningful to me as the gifts they sent.
So when DaySpring offered to send free cards to anyone willing to participate in their
January (in)spired deals I knew I was in. The cards came just in time for me to send off some thank you notes and it turns out people loved the cards just as much as I did. My friends and family all commented on the cuteness and quality. I happen to be the owner of a sweet Beagle puppy named Lucy, so sending a DaySpring card with Snoopy on the front was a perfect fit for me.
The Peanuts line also includes friendship & encouragement cards I haven’t had the opportunity to use yet. But I look forward to sending them too.
But that isn’t even the best part. DaySpring has also given me a $20 coupon code to give to one lucky blog reader. To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below telling me about a thank you card you sent or received that was meaningful to you.
I will close the comments on Friday, February, 3, 2012 at 12 pm PST. And I will use random.org to help me select a winner so make sure you leave a working email address so I know how to contact you if you win. The coupon code is good until December 31, 2012 and can be used on anything in the DaySpring store.
**Disclaimer: DaySpring provided me with free cards in exchange for writing a review. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.
Update: Comments are now closed. Thank you for entering. The winner is Nicole B.

During my 1st semester of college, there was a really sweet girl who lived across the hall from me. She really took an interest in me and helped me through the rough times. She was so sweet. So, the end of the semester, I wrote her a thank you card, thanking her for her friendship and guidance. It was the best gift I could have gotten.
Before the days of Facebook, I always wrote one of those goofy Christmas letters to accompany Christmas cards to friends & relatives. Even though the letter was a summary of our year, I purposed to use it for sharing God’s hand in our lives. A couple of years ago, my dear, sweet, gracious 90-year-old aunt, whom I had probably not seen in 15 years, wrote a thank-you note for my Christmas letter. In her shaky hand, she thanked me for sharing our news with her and letting her see the photos of our daughter, but the line that choked me up just a bit was how she saw God allover my letter and was so grateful for that glimpse.
Some of the most meaningful thank-you’s I have sent were to people who have given me support. This past July, I was hospitalized for two weeks and diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. My friends and family gave me flowers, and balloons, and stuffed animals. Even though the thank-you’s weren’t hand-made or anything, they were heartfelt nevertheless.
The most touching thank-you’s I have ever received have been from my pen-pal, who wrote me a letter when I first came out of the hospital. She has a similar illness to what I have, we finally met this past December! She has sent several notes just encouraging me and thanking me for being her friend. They have been real blessings to me.
I love writing hand notes to people, I purposely buy stamps and wait for the right moment, to send someone an ‘I’m thinking of you, or congratulations, or happy retirement’ Or Thank you for being a special friend to me. Hand notes are special and important in this world of emails and texting.
I was raised much the same way and didn’t fully appreciate the value of a handwritten thank you card until I grew up some.
The best thank-you letter, actually, that I ever got was from this sweet older man in my church who reads my column in the church newsletter faithfully. Handwritten. On fancy stationary. Accompanied by a framed painting of an island sunset (because I painted a word picture of a sunset in one particular article). I’ll never forget it (or take that painting off my wall).
My favorite thank you’s are the ones that have come from my writing. When God uses something I have written to change someone’s life, that is just the best!
A very meaningful thank you card I sent was to some dear friends who brought meals to me and my family when I miscarried. The card was nothing compared to the love they showed, but it was sent with heartfelt thanks! God bless those who help others when they are down!
My parents divorced when I was 22. At age 26, my Dad talked to me about wanting to get re-married. Being his only child, it was very important to him and his bride-to-be, that I was comfortable with this. I explained that as long as his new wife made my dad happy – then I would be happy! After the wedding, I received the loveliest thank you letter from my dad which remarked on my accepting and welcoming “Donna” into our lives, and that he knew how difficult that must be (it was!) seeing as he saw his dad get re-married. They have been married for about 20 years now, and still going strong!!
When I was in high school I was at a community fair with some friends. While standing in line for a ride I saw a neighbor who commented that her little girl really wanted to go on the ride but the mother couldn’t becauses she had another child who was too small for the ride. I offered to take the child on the ride with me. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? I thought nothing of it, but some time later I received a beautiful thank you note from the mother. She told me her daughter had been so thrilled to go on the ride & she wanted to thank me for taking time away from my friends to help out a mom & her children. I was touched by the thank you note alone, but to my surprise, included with it was a check for $20. This brought me to tears, because we were short on money & I had a specific need I’d been praying about and this money helped me to meet that need.
I try to teach my kids the meaningfulness of a thankyou card. I know how happy it makes their great grandparents to receive one from them.
